Dear Mr. MacDonald,

I enclose a copy of a letter which I

received recently from my friend Sir Thomas Southorn,

the Colonial Secretary at Hong Kong.

Mrs. Thompson who is now in England

has called upon me and I am anxious to help her as her

account of what is proposed makes me feel that the scheme

for a British Empire and China Trade Fair in Hong Kong is

a sound one with a good deal of brains and energy behind

it.

I have agreed to become a Vice-President of the

body she is trying to form under the name of The Friends

of China.

I should be very glad if you would grant

her an interview when she writes to you and give friendly

consideration to her proposals.

Southorn was at one time in Ceylon and

is now doing very good work in Hong Kong, very ably backed

up by Lady Southorn who is an extraordinarily able and

charming woman.
